The Geometry of Intellectual Drift: Toward Generative Physics from the Ptolemaic Standard Model

This work does not propose a new physical model in the conventional sense. It presents an axiomatic operational system—Cognitional Mechanics (CM)—and its unified realization, CM-GUT, within which contemporary physical theories, including General Relativity and the Standard Model, are reconstructed as derivative representations. The central claim is that modern particle physics has converged on a catalog-based descriptive practice: an accumulation of fields, parameters, and symmetry groups whose internal necessity is no longer derivable from first principles. In this respect, the present state of the Standard Model is structurally analogous to the Ptolemaic system of epicycles—empirically adequate, formally sophisticated, yet logically inflated. CM-GUT rejects descriptive accumulation as a foundational strategy. Instead, it begins from a minimal non-commutative algebraic core, concretely realized as the algebra of 3×33 \times 33×3 complex matrices, from which all fundamental “quantities” are generated operationally. Physical observables are not postulated but emerge as necessary consequences of the algebraic structure. Unification is not achieved by embedding forces into larger symmetry groups, nor by introducing higher-dimensional manifolds, additional fields, or ad hoc mechanisms. It occurs at the level of operational generation: gravity, gauge structure, and particle content arise as reverse-exports from a single algebraic substrate defined prior to physical interpretation. Accordingly, physics is treated not as a collection of experimentally fitted laws, but as a constrained output of an antecedent logical system. Experimental agreement is addressed only secondarily; the primary criterion is derivational completeness from axioms. The intended readership is defined not by disciplinary boundaries but by orientation: readers who take seriously the question of what “physics” is as a logical enterprise, and what a “final theory” would have to be if it were to be more than an optimized catalog. No effort is made to persuade or popularize. If CM-GUT is valid, it will be recognized by those for whom the question is already unavoidable. The claims made here have since been substantiated across dozens of papers, including zero-parameter derivations of all four Standard Model coupling constants, proof of the impossibility of quantum gravity via Type Separation, dissolution of particle ontology, and a zero-parameter cosmological model.
