The Cosmic Library Reality as Constraint, Persistence, and Indexed Possibility
Abstract
Contemporary physics and philosophy typically describe reality through time-evolution from initial conditions. This paper proposes an alternative framework in which the universe is modeled as a permissive archive governed by invariant constraints, where persistence—not temporal flow—is fundamental. In this view, physical states are not evolved forward in time but selected locally from a constrained solution space. Time emerges as an indexing process rather than a global parameter. Within this framework, gravity is interpreted as a gradient in record density, entropy as irreversible constraint accumulation, and consciousness as a navigational governance layer required for complex systems to maintain persistence under uncertainty. Life is understood not as an optimized design but as a necessity-driven strategy for maintaining coherence within constraint-limited environments. The model provides unified explanatory leverage across cosmology, thermodynamics, biology, and cognition, offering reframings of the arrow of time, the measurement problem, and the role of meaning as a coordination scaffold rather than a fundamental property. This work is presented as a conceptual architecture rather than a complete formalism, intended to organize existing empirical findings and guide future constraint-based modeling approaches.
