Abstract

Netelia (Paropheltes) dalupalringi Chen, Konishi & Shiao sp. nov. Figs 6 F, 15, 16, 17 P – S Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from other species of subgenus Paropheltes in having the combination of the following characters: occipital carina vestigial dorsally or completely absent; scutellum with lateral carina extend to about 0.6 of its length; propodeum with sublateral crest strong; gonostyle parallel-sided and rounded blunt apically, with submarginal spine present; pad semi-circular and projected dorso-basally; brace parallel-sided basally and narrow apically; penisvalva with valvura long and slender. This species resembles Netelia (Paropheltes) caucasica (Kokujev, 1899) in the general shape of the gonostyle and pad, as described in the original description and by Konishi (1996 a). However, it differs in having a parallel-sided gonostyle (tapered in N. (Paro.) caucasica), a submarginal spine presents subapically on the dorsal gonostyle (absent in N. (Paro.) caucasica), and a pale yellowish-brown mesosoma (dark brown to black mesosoma in N. (Paro.) caucasica). Type material. Holotype. The specific name is derived from the type locality, Lake Dalupalringi, a pristine high-mountain lake located at the boundary between Kaohsiung City and Taitung County in Taiwan. This lake is famous for its difficulty to access and a sacred site for the indigenous Rukai people in Taiwan. The name is a noun in apposition. Distribution. Taiwan (Kaohsiung, Nantou, Hualien). Bionomics. Unknown. Remarks. Given the differences mentioned above in the diagnosis section, especially the presence of the submarginal spine in the gonostyle and the pale body coloration, this species is considered a new species rather than a variant of N. (Paro.) caucasica (Kokujev, 1899). This species cannot be assigned into any known species group of this subgenus.
