Abstract

This white paper introduces the concept of cognitive domestication to describe the gradual re-routing of human development within algorithmically mediated environments. Drawing on evidence from developmental psychology, neuroscience, behavioural conditioning, organisational theory, and political philosophy, the paper argues that contemporary digital systems do not merely influence behaviour but actively reshape identity formation, emotional regulation, and judgement capacity. It traces how everyday technological immersion cultivates cognitive dependence, emotional fragility, and compliance-oriented decision-making, with far-reaching consequences for organisations and democratic society. Rather than framing digital transformation as a neutral process, the paper positions algorithmic infrastructures as formative social architectures that quietly transform citizens into users and autonomy into comfort.
