PRAGMATIC FEATURES OF THE LEXEME HONESTY: A LINGUISTIC PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
The study of pragmatics explores how meaning is conveyed in context, beyond the literal interpretation of words. This paper investigates the pragmatic features of the lexeme honesty, focusing on how it functions in real-life discourse and varies in interpretation based on social, cultural, and contextual factors. Drawing from linguistic theories and corpus-based examples, the study analyzes the polysemy, implicature, presupposition, and speech act functions of honesty. The results highlight that while honesty is universally valued, its pragmatic realization is context-dependent, often shaped by cultural norms and interpersonal dynamics.
