**ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF ATOMS: POLYHEDRAL THEORY AND DOUBLE LEVELS**
Abstract
In this work, based on the analysis of the empirical evidence provided by theperiodic table of the elements, an organization into seven electronic levels is proposed, observing that levels with principal quantum number n>1 exhibit a double structure. It ishypothesized that this duplicity allows an effective interference between levels, manifestedas an internal shielding phenomenon, responsible for the differences observed in thephysicochemical properties of elements belonging to the same column, as occurs, forexample, between carbon and silicon.Furthermore, a geometrical representation of these levels is introduced, considering them as polyhedra whose number of faces corresponds to the maximumnumber of electrons admissible in each level. When a level is not completely occupied, holesappear on its electronic surface, which act as receptor sites for electrons coming from otheratoms, thus facilitating the formation of chemical bonds and the emergence of molecularstructures.
