The healthcare industry in India, serving one of the world’s largest and most diverse populations, faces complex workforce challenges related to gender imbalance, cultural diversity, equity in promotion, and inclusive work environments. Despite growing policy emphasis on DEI, practical implementation within healthcare institutions remains uneven. This study examines the impact of workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion on the work environment and employee performance in healthcare industries located in Pune District, Maharashtra. Using a descriptive research design, the study draws on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires, interviews, and observations from 435 employees selected from 29 accredited hospitals across the district. Secondary data were sourced from academic journals, government reports, theses, and institutional publications. Statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, correlation, regression analysis, and chi-square tests were employed using SPSS software. The findings highlight that effective DEI practices positively influence employee satisfaction, trust, engagement, and organizational performance. However, challenges such as gender discrimination, cultural bias, limited career advancement opportunities, and inadequate institutional accountability persist. The study contributes to existing literature by offering sector-specific insights and proposes a DEI model tailored to the healthcare industry to promote equitable growth, inclusive leadership, and sustainable workforce development.
