Abstract

IndianConstitution is an open-source Python framework that provides structured, type-safe, and programmatic access to the Constitution of India. The package includes the complete constitutional corpus, covering the Preamble, all Articles, Schedules, and amendments through the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023. The framework offers fast full-text search through an inverted-index engine, typed data models based on Pydantic, graph-based analysis of constitutional relationships, multi-format export capabilities, and optional semantic search functionality for artificial intelligence and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) applications. IndianConstitution is designed for legal informatics, constitutional research, civic technology, legal education, natural language processing, legal AI systems, and computational social science. The package supports reproducible research through a versioned constitutional corpus, deterministic outputs, and offline-first operation. Key features include: Structured access to constitutional Articles, Parts, Schedules, and the Preamble High-performance constitutional text search Graph-based constitutional relationship analysis Data science integration through pandas and NetworkX AI and RAG-ready semantic retrieval capabilities Multi-format export to JSON, CSV, and Markdown Fully offline and reproducible operation The source code is openly available on GitHub and distributed through PyPI under the Apache License 2.0.
