Administrative Trauma
Abstract
This essay defines administrative trauma as the harm produced when people must navigate systems that misrecognize them, delay them, or trap them in procedural loops. It shows how modern governance—especially automated governance—inflicts injury not through outcomes, but through the process itself. By mapping friction, opacity, misclassification, and AI‑driven containment, the essay exposes the widening gap between digital design and lived reality.
