The biogeography of reproductive success in North American birds
Abstract
The “SI” folder contains: supporting information for the manuscript titled “The Biogeography of Reproductive Success in North American Birds” The raw data for nest attempt records can be directly downloaded from NestWatch (https://data.mendeley.com/datasets/wjf794z7gc/5). We provide a script to clean and prepare the data and run the analysis. Contents: (1) README(2) R scripts(3) data(4) figures ####### (1) README: Explains all content in the file (SI). ########## (2) R scripts (run the scripts in this sequence) ** Download the NestWatch data and species’ shapefiles first; see below (a) data_preparation.R: This script processes the downloaded NestWatch data by cleaning and preparing it for analysis. Adds all the necessary predictors and prepares the data for further analysis. (b) BiogeographyModel(ZiP).R: This script runs the biogeography model to test the abundant center and biotic interaction hypotheses. It generates basic figures from the model output, produces posterior-based predictions (lines), and maps model predictions to visually demonstrate spatial patterns. (c) TemporalChangeModel(ZiP).R: This script is structurally similar to the biogeography model. It first structures the data into two time periods, runs the model, and then generates basic figures from the model output. It also produces posterior-based predictions across latitudes to test hypotheses related to temporal change. #### (3) data (a) The NestWatch data are freely available at: https://data.mendeley.com/datasets/wjf794z7gc/5 (b) Species range shapefiles can be downloaded from the IUCN (https://www.iucnredlist.org/resources/spatial-data-download) website. (c) Summarized parameter estimates for the biogeography and temporal change models are stored in the subfolder “model_output”. #### (4) figures (a) All figures exported directly from R are provided in the subfolder “R_plots”. (b) The same figures were further processed in Adobe Illustrator and are provided in the subfolder “final_figures”. ####
