Variance Control, Irreversibility, and the Limits of Patentable Abstraction
Abstract
This paper establishes variance control under irreversible risk as a structural neces-sity rather than a proprietary invention. It demonstrates that any persistent system op-erating in the presence of absorbing failure boundaries must regulate variance, suppresstail risk, and constrain adaptive dynamics. These mechanisms arise inevitably acrossphysical, biological, cognitive, institutional, and artificial systems. Consequently, ab-stract or functional claims over variance control, collapse avoidance, feasibility enforce-ment, or irreversibility-aware decision filtering cannot constitute novel inventions. Onlyconcrete, implementation-specific engineering realizations may be patentable. Thiswork serves as a formal prior-art disclosure intended to preserve open engineering de-velopment while preventing monopolization of structurally inevitable control principles.
