Epilogue Conditions for Civilizational Transition Beyond Survival-Based Existence
Abstract
This epilogue synthesizes the core insights of the series and identifies the minimal conditions under which a civilizational transition beyond survival-based existence becomes possible. Rather than proposing a program, roadmap, or solution, the paper clarifies why such transitions cannot be designed or imposed, and instead depend on structural conditions that allow generative and relational existence to emerge. The epilogue argues that contemporary crises—demographic decline, environmental exhaustion, institutional failure, and artificial intelligence—do not guarantee transition, but merely expose the exhaustion of a control-oriented ontological framework. It identifies five minimal conditions, including ontological recognition, tolerance for uncertainty, relational density, decoupling of value from function, and design restraint. This paper concludes the theoretical series initiated by the overview DOIː 10.5281/zenodo.18193256 “Rationality Without Transition: Why Advanced Civilizations Remain Trapped in an Animalistic Mode of Survival” by articulating the conditions—rather than the outcomes—of civilizational transition.
