Abstract

This is a one-dimensional numerical model for predicting the formation and long-term evolution of focused-fluid escape system. This model couples the fracture intiation and propagation with the subsequent multiphase flow (liquid water, free gas) multicomponent reactive transport (e.g., methane hydrate formation). The fracture network that connects the deep fluid source with the seafloor is formed from overpressure-driven hydraulic fracturing. Overpessure is generated by constant fluid flow from the bottom of the boundary. This model should run from "Main_loop.m". Details of the model can be found in the publication "Formation and Long-Term Evolution of Focused-Fluid Escape Systems in Marine Environments" by Kehua You, Leslie Baksmaty, and Scott A. Socolofsky.
