Utilization of the Photomath Application as a Medium for Mathematical Problem Solving
Abstract
This study aims to describe the utilization of the Photomath application as a medium for mathematical problem-solving. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form. The instrument consisted of mathematical problems to be solved using the Photomath application and a satisfaction survey with 10 items (Q1-Q10) using a 5-point Likert scale (1=Strongly Disagree to 5=Strongly Agree), along with open-ended responses. The primary data source was ten students from the Islamic State University of Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan, specifically from the Mathematics Education program, class of 2024. Secondary data sources included articles from Google Scholar. The research stages involved determining subjects, distributing questionnaires, and analyzing responses. The quantitative results from the satisfaction survey showed strongly positive user perceptions: a majority agreed or strongly agreed that the solutions were easy to understand (Q1: 60% Agree), the features were easy to use (Q2: 50% Agree, 50% Strongly Agree), the app was comfortable (Q3: 60% Strongly Agree), the features were satisfying (Q4: 60% Agree), the features met their needs (Q5: 50% Agree), the presented solutions were easy to learn (Q6: 60% Strongly Agree), the features were easy to operate (Q7: 50% Strongly Agree), the app minimized errors (Q8: 40% Agree), it was beneficial for math problem-solving (Q9: 40% Agree, 40% Strongly Agree), and its capabilities met user expectations (Q10: 60% Agree). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the utilization of the Photomath application is highly beneficial and effective as a medium for mathematical problem-solving, assisting users—particularly those less proficient in mathematics—by providing understandable, easy-to-use, and satisfactory features and performance.
