The Broken Scissors: An Isomorphism Between Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and Supply-Demand Asymmetry
Abstract
"Never whole. Never symmetric. Never there — only here." We establish a formal isomorphism between the Higgs mechanism in particle physics and supply-demand theory in economics, arguing that both "symmetry" and "equilibrium" are theoretical constructs, not features of reality. The universe was never symmetric; the market was never in equilibrium. Behind the cicada, the mantis. Behind the mantis, the oriole. Behind the oriole, the slingshot. Each hunter becomes the hunted.
