Pulsar Timing Noise as a Constraint on Low-Level Spacetime or Propagation Structure
Abstract
This paper represents an earlier stage in the development of the Entropic Spacetime Field (ESF) framework. The current reference implementation is presented in MMS-A19: The Entropic Spacetime Field: A Canonical Wave Framework for Cosmic Structure Formation 10.5281/zenodo.21433778, which supersedes the mathematical formulation described here while retaining a number of the underlying physical concepts. This research note frames pulsar timing noise as a constraint regime for any hypothetical low-level, persistent contribution to timing residuals arising from weak spacetime or propagation structure - a “hum”. The discussion is explicitly test-first and does not claim detection. Instead, it clarifies how such a contribution would need to be weak, non-coherent across pulsars and compatible with existing red-noise and propagation budgets to remain consistent with current pulsar timing results. The note is motivated by entropy-structured spacetime ideas, including the Entropic Spacetime Field (ESF), and is intended as an exploratory constraint study.
