Abstract

Stone walkways documented across Oak Island, Nova Scotia, have traditionally been described as simple paths or incidental features. This paper re-examines these structures through a functional and environmental lens, evaluating their construction, placement, and spatial relationships to other known features on the island. Rather than serving pedestrian movement alone, the walkways display characteristics consistent with logistical transport infrastructure designed to support repeated movement of materials and equipment across wet and uneven terrain. The findings suggest intentional engineering associated with sustained operational activity rather than casual or domestic use.
