Abstract

French drains are commonly misunderstood as modern landscaping features. In reality, the underlying concept—subsurface stone-lined channels designed to collect, filter, and redirect water—has been in use for centuries. When combined with hydraulic wells, these drains form integrated systems capable of regulating water flow, managing pressure, preventing erosion, and controlling industrial or maritime environments.
