Enhancing Disaster Resilience with Digital Early Warning Systems
Abstract
Digital early warning systems (DEWS) are increasingly recognized as essential instruments in disaster risk reduction, enabling timely hazard detection, risk communication, and early response actions [1,4]. India’s exposure to recurrent floods and earthquakes necessitates robust preparedness mechanisms supported by digital technologies [5,6]. This study examines the role of DEWS in enhancing disaster resilience in India through a focused analysis of flood and earthquake early warning initiatives [8,14]. Using secondary data, policy documents, and case study analysis, the research evaluates system effectiveness, communication efficiency, and implementation challenges. Findings indicate that sensor-based monitoring and mobile communication platforms significantly enhance preparedness and reduce disaster impacts, though infrastructure gaps and uneven accessibility remain persistent concerns [10,34].
