Abstract

We study unobserved law of nature and present a comprehensive review of themathematical theories of kinetic equations developed by Cédric Villani and collaborators, with a specific focus on their under-utilized potential in theoreticalastrophysics and cosmology. Our abstract will be imperfect, the topic of gas is adifficult and poorly understud topic but we leave room for future corrections. Theidea is to ground this inquiry in physical reality: consider the trajectory of a singlephoton γ with wave 4-vector kµ = (ω/c,k) traversing a Cosmic Gas cloud. Asit pierces the halo, it does not encounter a static void, but a dynamic, seethingplenum of phase-space filaments. The photon’s frequency shift ∆νν = ˆn · ∇Φdlencodes the "breathing" of the potential well—a direct probe of the Landau damping mechanism at work. This interaction reveals the fundamental reality of thegas cloud not merely as matter, but as a standing wave of energy, where the virialtheorem 2K + W = 0 is constantly tested by non-linear fluctuations. However, this standard picture relies on the implicit validity of Maxwell’s equations in thecontinuous limit. We venture a bold hypothesis: that Maxwell’s formalism is incomplete when describing the turbulent energy exchanges in the cosmic gas, requiringa photonic extension that treats the electromagnetic field not as a smooth manifoldbut as a granular, stochastic medium. We argue that what we perceive as "darkmatter" phenomena may essentially be the specific signature of this "MaxwellianIncompleteness" on galactic scales. The “Cosmic Gas”—defined here as the coupledsystem of self-gravitating Dark Matter, the baryonic Intergalactic Medium (IGM),and emergent scalar fields—is governed by the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system,a set of non-linear partial differential equations whose rigorous properties have beenelucidated only recently. We map Villani’s Fields Medal-winning work on LandauDamping to the stability of Dark Matter halos, arguing that the Mouhot-VillaniTheorem provides the rigorous justification for the stability of collisionless virializedstructures. Furthermore, we explore the theory of Hypocoercivity, which describesconvergence to equilibrium in systems with degenerate dissipation (where noise actsonly on velocities but confinement is spatial). We propose that Hypocoercivity offers a superior framework for understanding the thermalization of the Warm-HotIntergalactic Medium (WHIM) and galaxy clusters compared to standard collisional relaxation times. Finally, we discuss Optimal Transport theory, specifically the concept of displacement convexity, as the geometric dual to the Zeldovich approximation in Large Scale Structure formation. The culmination of our abstract will feature the innovative maxwell extension.
