Abstract

Photography didn’t arrive in the world as a single, sudden invention. It took shape over centuries, builtfrom overlapping ideas about light, vision, chemistry, and eventually electronics. This paper follows thatlong arc, beginning with Ibn al-Haytham’s eleventh-century experiments in optics and his clearexplanation of how images form inside a dark chamber. PMC From there, it traces the slow but decisiveshift from projected images to chemically fixed ones: early discoveries involving light-sensitive silversalts, the first photograms, and the breakthrough of permanent photographs in the nineteenth centurythrough Niépce, Daguerre, and Talbot. It then examines the industrial acceleration of photographythrough wet collodion, dry plates, and roll film, which turned image-making into a practical tool foreveryday life.
