Abstract

Description / Abstract: This document introduces version 2.0 of the Emergence Formula – a qualitative, domain-agnostic framework designed to support the analysis and teaching of complex systems. The formula expresses emergence as a function of four interacting components: Matter (M), Configuration (C), Process (P), and Time (T), resulting in an emergent phenomenon (R). The framework provides a simple yet powerful tool for decomposing interdisciplinary phenomena across science, technology, ecology, culture, and more. It supports systems thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and comparative analysis. Version 2.0 emphasizes clarity, educational utility, and ethical responsibility. It includes case studies, a step-by-step application protocol, and a reusable analytical template. This is a cognitive scaffolding tool, not a predictive or numerical model.
