Abstract

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) have emerged as one of the most critical tools for safeguarding creativity, innovation, and cultural heritage. The protection of Traditional Knowledge Systems (TKS), especially India’s rich Ayurvedic tradition, has assumed importance in the context of global patent races, rising bio-piracy, and increased commercial exploitation of indigenous resources. This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the concepts, legal frameworks, institutional structures, and databases designed to safeguard TKS. It also examines the Vedic origins, textual foundations, philosophical frameworks, and contemporary relevance of Ayurveda. The article further links IPR and Ayurveda within broader legal, procedural, and human-rights contexts relevant to criminology, jurisprudence, and public administration. This multidisciplinary article integrates law, intellectual property management, biodiversity governance, Indian traditional medicine, and criminal justice systems.
