Abstract

The transdermal system was formulated to overcome the problem of drug delivery, especially through the oral route, by avoiding first pass metabolism. A transdermal patch is a medicated adhesive patch applied to the skin, with the intention that the medication will permeate through the skin to give a specific amount of the administered medicament into the body. A particular dose induces improved healing to an injured area on the body. The main advantage of the transdermal drug delivery system, over other delivery systems is that it provides a controlled release of the medication into the patient either through a porous membrane, covering a reservoir of medication, or through body heat melting thin layers of medication embedded in the adhesive. Transdermal Patches containing Aceclofenac were prepared by Solvent Casting Technique using Methyl Cellulose and Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose as polymers in various ratios with Propylene Glycol as enhancer. The prepared patches were studied and optimized with respect to physicochemical characters, in-vitro drug diffusion studies. Based on the physicochemical parameters and in-vitro drug diffusion studies, F2 was found to be better formulation as it released a maximum amount of drug. It can be concluded as the optimized formulation for effective sustained release drug delivery and can be targeted for Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis, etc.
