Regulatory Compliance and Legal Accountability in the Philippine Medical Field: A Study on the Intersection of Medicine and Law
Abstract
This study examines the legal framework governing medical practice in the Philippines, focusing on the compliance obligations of healthcare professionals and institutions. It investigates how existing laws, including the Medical Act of 1959, Civil Code provisions on professional negligence, and Supreme Court decisions, protect patient rights and ensure accountability. The research analyzes challenges in enforcement, gaps in regulatory oversight, and the practical implications for both medical practitioners and patients. Through a combination of doctrinal legal research and case analysis, the study provides a comprehensive overview of Philippine medical law and its application in contemporary healthcare practice.
