Abstract

Creative thinking is the ability to generate new ideas or concepts. Students at SMK Negeri 1 Sinunukan, Sinunukan District, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, often struggle to develop this skill, particularly in problem-solving contexts. Therefore, this study aims to apply the Discovery Learning model to improve students' creative thinking abilities. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted with 18 students from class X-A Catering at SMK Negeri 1 Sinunukan. The research was carried out over two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results indicate that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model successfully enhanced the mathematical creative thinking skills of the students, categorized as excellent based on classroom observations. The average creativity score from observations increased from 35.412% (classified as low) in the first cycle to 73.755% (classified as high) in the second cycle. Similarly, the results from the students' creativity tests showed an increase from 28.411% in the first cycle to 58.333% in the second cycle. Thus, it can be concluded that there was a significant improvement in students' creativity in solving mathematical problems.
