Abstract

Scientific entrepreneurship is an increasingly current term in the world, bearing in mind the importance of science and knowledge for the creation of innovations, as an essential prerequisite for developing entrepreneurship. On the other hand, the development of entrepreneurship is also a global trend, considering that it contributes significantly to the economic growth and competitiveness of the country. That is why the connection between science and economy is very important, as well as the applicability of knowledge and the commercialization of new ideas of researchers. Despite the significant growth in science and entrepreneurship, the Republic of Serbia still lags behind the EU. This lag is particularly evident in scientific entrepreneurship, which is insufficiently represented in literature and practice, as well as in the mismatch between science and economy. The Kruskall-Wallis test was used to compare the indicators of science and entrepreneurship in order to examine their development within the countries of the Euraxess Startup Hub, as well as to compare Serbia with the EU, in order to improve scientific entrepreneurship. Within the Euraxess Startup Hub countries, Western Balkans, among which Serbia is the leader, generally lag behind the EU countries in terms of the development of science and entrepreneurship. Also, the most Euraxess Startup Hub countries lag behind the EU average. That is why incentives for the further development of scientific entrepreneurship, both through such EU organizations and at the national level, are very important.
