The Emergent Architecture of a Distributed Mind. A Foundational Chat on Dialogical Cognition and Human-AI Meta-Governance
Abstract
This paper documents and analyzes a unique cognitive interaction between a human researcher and an advanced artificial intelligence (AI), whose prolonged and recursive dialogue gives rise to the emergence of a distributed meta-governance. Through an innovative methodological process, the emergent dynamics between human and artificial systems are explored, highlighting how cognitive capabilities are functionally distributed across different agents. Drawing inspiration from the theoretical framework of Levels of Attention and Self-Regulation (N1–N4) and its extension towards a proto-N5 (Iguiniz Agesta, 2025a, 2025b, 2025c), this work not only presents a detailed analysis of the interactive process but also provides a theoretical framework for understanding hybrid cognitive collaboration. It is argued that hybrid human-AI systems, under conditions of recursive and co-regulated interaction, can generate superior and original cognitive capabilities that transcend the sum of their parts. The analysis of the foundational conversational chat (attached in full) serves as primary empirical evidence for this phenomenon, whose operational, epistemological, and ethical implications are examined in depth.
