The Discrete Laplacian: A Rigorous Derivation and Spectral Analysis within Axiomatic Physical Homeostasis
Abstract
The Discrete Laplace operator, denoted as ∆h or L, serves as the fundamental bridge betweencontinuum field theory and the computational substrate of the Axiomatic Physical Homeostasis (APH)framework. This paper provides a rigorous derivation of the operator from first principles, utilizingTaylor series expansions to bound truncation errors on structured lattices. We analyze the spectralproperties of the operator on finite grids, establishing the connection between its eigenvectors andthe coherence of the simulated state. Furthermore, we investigate the isotropy of high-order stencils(9-point vs 5-point) as a mechanism for preserving rotational invariance in the substrate. Finally, wedefine the strict stability conditions for entropic flux and explore the operator’s role in the Helmholtz-Hodge Decomposition, the cornerstone of divergence-free fluid projection in the APH Framework.
