Maintenance Physical Restoration of Measurement Stability
Abstract
This paper defines maintenance strictly as a physical process required to restore or preserve the stability of measurement systems. Using only established physics, it frames maintenance as a material and energetic intervention that counteracts accumulated drift and structural degradation, enabling continued comparability of records over time. Maintenance is distinguished from calibration, correction, or procedural activity by its direct action on the physical substrate—matter, geometry, and energy flow—rather than on data or interpretation.
