The Ionmagnetosphere as a Coherent Transport Medium: Field-Aligned Plasma Geometry, Atmospheric Decoupling, and Trans-Medium Craft Motion
Abstract
Earth is embedded in a continuous plasma structure formed by the coupled ionosphere and magnetosphere. This ionmagnetospheric system exhibits coherent field-aligned ducts, plasma cavities, flux ropes, and refractive index gradients that guide electromagnetic waves and charged particles across planetary scales. Conventional aerospace models treat the atmosphere as the primary medium for flight and space as vacuum. This paper presents a physically grounded alternative: the ionmagnetosphere functions as a structured transport medium whose geometry can support non-aerodynamic translation. The framework unifies space physics, plasma waveguides, and electromagnetic metric effects into a single transport model. Within this model, certain aerial and trans-medium craft trajectories correspond to motion through field-aligned plasma corridors rather than motion through air or water. This hypothesis is tested against multi-sensor observational data including radar, infrared, GNSS total electron content, VLF/ELF emissions, and magnetometer records. A falsifiable experimental pathway is defined.
