Extending Baar's Theatre: a Substrate for World Peace
Abstract
Bernard Baars’ Global Workspace Theory has been one of the most influentialfunctional accounts of consciousness, describing conscious experience as the result ofinformation entering a limited-capacity global broadcasting system—the “theatre.”While powerful at the cognitive and computational levels, the theory remains agnosticabout the ultimate physical origin of the candidate contents that compete for accessto this workspace. Recent developments in models of quantum processes in neuraltissue suggest that brain computation may not be fully closed, but instead weaklycoupled to universal physical degrees of freedom. This paper proposes an extension ofBaar’s Theatre by introducing a pre-theatrical substrate: a quantum layer of neuralinformation processing modulated by cosmic-scale gravitational perturbations, heretermed gravity-bits. We argue that this shared physical substrate establishes a commoninformational ground across all brains. From this, a novel, non-ideological foundationfor dialogue and peace emerges—one grounded not in belief, culture, or ethics alone, but in shared participation in the same cosmic informational environment.
