LEGAL AND POLITICAL ANALYSIS OF DYNASTIC COMPETITION IN DAVAO CITY: DUTERTE, NOGRALES, AND GARCIA IN THE 2025 LOCAL ELECTIONS
Abstract
Political dynasties remain a defining feature of local governance in the Philippines, particularly in highly urbanized cities such as Davao City. The 2025 local elections once again demonstrated the persistence of family-based political dominance, with the Duterte political dynasty consolidating power against rival clans such as the Nograles and Garcia families. This research provides a legal and political analysis of the recent electoral contests in Davao City, examining how dynastic rivalry operates within the bounds of Philippine constitutional and electoral law.
