Joint Wind–Wave Conditional Analysis Workflow
Abstract
Overview This repository provides a fully reproducible Python workflow for joint wind–wave analysis based on conditional statistics defined on discrete wind states. The workflow is intended for metocean site characterisation where discrete operational and severe sea states are required. The workflow is designed for offshore wind and metocean applications where: wind climates are represented by discrete wind states (speed, direction, weight, turbulence intensity), wave and sea-state parameters must be physically consistent with those same wind states, and empirical, state-based representations are preferred over fully continuous joint probability models. Unlike copula-based or fully continuous joint models, this workflow operates directly on discretised wind states, making it naturally compatible with state-based offshore wind analyses. The scripts demonstrate how to: construct wind states from long-term wind time series, estimate wave statistics conditional on those wind states, identify operational and directionally severe sea states, and summarise and visualise the resulting conditional relationships. The workflow is site-agnostic and operates directly on collocated wind and wave time series. While the examples use synthetic data and FOXES (Farm Optimization and eXtended yield Evaluation Software, ref. https://fraunhoferiwes.github.io/foxes.docs/build/html/index.html) -compatible wind states, the conditional analysis itself does not depend on any specific wake, wave or repsonse model.Notes: License: This repository is released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license.
