Abstract

Seven villancicos from the liturgical cycle of Christmas written by Teresa of Jesus have survived to this day: four for the feast of the Nativity of Jesus (25 December), two for his Circumcision (1 January) and one for the feast of the Epiphany or Three Kings (6 January). It is not possible to pinpoint the exact dates and places where these villancicos were composed, but we do know that they circulated among various convents of the Discalced Carmelites.
