Abstract

The present investigation assesses the strength and direction of linear relationships among selected physico-chemical parameters of Girana Dam water using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Monthly water samples were collected from August 2024 to January 2025 and analyzed for eleven parameters, including air temperature, water temperature, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total alkalinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), chlorides, nitrates, and phosphates. The correlation analysis revealed strong positive and negative associations among temperature, ionic parameters, transparency, and nutrients. Air and water temperatures exhibited perfect positive correlation, while transparency and dissolved oxygen showed strong negative correlation with temperature and dissolved solids. Nutrient parameters were inversely related to transparency, indicating enhanced productivity during warmer months. The study concludes that Pearson correlation analysis is an effective tool to understand water quality dynamics, and the Girana Dam exhibits mesotrophic characteristics with clear seasonal influence.
