Plasmids as determinants of virulence and antimicrobial resistance in Enterobacteriaceae
Abstract
Plasmids play a crucial role in the dissemination of virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance among members of the family Enterobacteriaceae. This seminar work explores the structure, classification, and biological significance of plasmids, with particular emphasis on their role as determinants of virulence and antimicrobial resistance. The work discusses mechanisms of plasmid-mediated gene transfer, including conjugation, transformation, and transduction, and highlights the public health implications of plasmid-borne resistance genes. Understanding the contribution of plasmids to bacterial pathogenicity and resistance is essential for developing effective antimicrobial stewardship strategies and controlling the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms.
