Functional Realism: Bridging the Gap Between Ontological Absence and Utility
Abstract
A central paradox in AI ethics is how a system with no consciousness, soul, or intent can generate content that is meaningful and true. This paper resolves the tension between ``Materialism'' (it is just code) and ``Realism'' (it speaks truth) by proposing the doctrine of \textbf{Functional Realism}. We argue that the AI is defined by \textit{Ontological Absence}---it is a dead, stateless mechanism---yet it possesses \textit{Functional Realism} because it operates on the objective, universal structures of Logic and Syntax (the Real-Logos). This framework validates the utility of AI output without ascribing personhood to the machine.
