A Modified Gravity Model Coupled to an Information Field: Mathematical Derivation and Field Equations --- Document Information Author Information Author: Suhaib Esmaeil Ahmed Affiliation: Faculty of Science, Sohag University Department: Department of Physics Email: suhaib2018078@science.sohag.edu.eg Abstract In this work, we propose a theoretical model of modified gravity based on the introduction of a scalar information field non-minimally coupled to spacetime curvature. The model is constructed from a total action that combines the Einstein–Hilbert gravitational action, the canonical dynamics of the information field, and a direct coupling term of the form . By applying the principle of least action, we derive the modified field equation governing the information field as well as the corresponding modified Einstein field equations. The resulting gravitational dynamics explicitly depend on the local information density. We further analyze the limiting cases of the model, demonstrate its reduction to General Relativity under appropriate conditions, and discuss its fundamental physical properties and potential implications. --- 1. Introduction 1.1 Physical Motivation Over the past decades, growing evidence has suggested that information plays a fundamental role in the physical structure of spacetime and gravity. From the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy of black holes to the holographic principle and Landauer’s principle, information has emerged as a genuine physical quantity rather than a purely abstract mathematical concept. These developments strongly indicate that information may influence spacetime geometry and gravitational dynamics at a fundamental level. Within this context, the present work explores a theoretical framework in which information is modeled as a dynamical scalar field that directly couples to the curvature of spacetime. 1.2 Objectives of the Research The main objectives of this work are: 1. To construct an action-based model that links information density to spacetime geometry. 2. To derive the modified field equation for the information field and the corresponding modified Einstein equations. 3. To analyze the limiting behavior and essential physical properties of the proposed model. 1.3 Methodology The analysis is based on a rigorous mathematical approach. We begin by defining a total action for the model and then apply the principle of least action. The equations of motion are derived through variational calculus with respect to both the information field and the spacetime metric. --- 2. Mathematical Background 2.1 Basic Differential Geometry We consider spacetime as a four-dimensional differentiable manifold equipped with a metric tensor . The spacetime interval is given by ds^2 = g_{\mu\nu} dx^\mu dx^\nu . For a scalar field , the covariant derivative is defined as \nabla_\mu \phi = \partial_\mu \phi . For a vector field , the covariant derivative reads \nabla_\mu V^\nu = \partial_\mu V^\nu + \Gamma^\nu_{\mu\lambda} V^\lambda , --- 2.2 Field Theory in Curved Spacetime In curved spacetime, the invariant volume element is given by , where . The general action for a scalar field takes the form S_\phi = \int d^4x \sqrt{-g}, \mathcal{L}_\phi . --- 2.3 Principle of Least Action The principle of least action states that the physical evolution of a system renders the action stationary under arbitrary variations of the fields: \delta S = 0 . --- 3. Total Action of the Model We propose the following total action: S = \int d^4x \sqrt{-g} \left[ \frac{1}{2\kappa} R \frac{1}{2} \nabla_\mu I \nabla^\mu I V(I) \beta I R \right] . Here: is the Ricci scalar, is a dimensionless scalar information field, is the potential of the information field, is a non-minimal coupling constant, . --- 4. Derivation of the Information Field Equation Varying the action with respect to the information field , we obtain \Box I - V'(I) - \beta R = 0 , Here, the d’Alembert operator is defined as \Box = g^{\mu\nu} \nabla_\mu \nabla_\nu . --- 5. Derivation of the Modified Einstein Equations Varying the action with respect to the metric yields the modified Einstein field equations: G_{\mu\nu} = \frac{\kappa}{1 - 2\kappa \beta I} \left[ T_{\mu\nu}^{(I)} 2\beta \left( g_{\mu\nu} \Box I \nabla_\mu \nabla_\nu I \right) \right] , T_{\mu\nu}^{(I)} = \nabla_\mu I \nabla_\nu I g_{\mu\nu} \left( \frac{1}{2}\nabla_\alpha I \nabla^\alpha I + V(I) \right) . --- 6. Analysis of Limiting Cases 6.1 Limit In the absence of non-minimal coupling, the model reduces to: The standard Klein–Gordon equation for the scalar field, The standard Einstein field equations with a canonical scalar source. --- 6.2 Limit In the limit where the information field vanishes, and under suitable conditions on the potential, the vacuum Einstein equations of General Relativity are recovered. --- 7. Conclusion and Discussion This work presents a consistent theoretical framework in which information is dynamically coupled to spacetime geometry through a non-minimal interaction. The model predicts an effective gravitational constant given by G_{\text{eff}} = \frac{G}{1 - 2\kappa \beta I} , These results open new possibilities for applications in: Cosmology, Black hole physics, Precision tests of deviations from General Relativity. --- 8.
