Defining a Science of the Nonphysical
Abstract
From the perspective of state space modeling, non-physical phenomena are simply those that occur outside the state space of the subset of the physical universe currently being observed. If the rules or “physics” governing one state space can be very different than in the case of another, then such rules might not easily be used to understand other state spaces. However, if the rules governing all state spaces can be understood, then any understanding developed in any one state space contributes to the understanding of any other. In this sense, the rules governing all state spaces is a science of the non-physical. This paper explores the arguments justifying the claim that a science of the non-physical might exponentially increase our collective understanding of science.
