Emergent Abelian Gauge Structure via Berry Connection in Higher-Derivative Scalar Field Theory
Abstract
Description: This article explores the geometric structure of the higher-derivative Lee--Wick (HDLW) scalar theory, investigating the origin of gauge interactions as an emergent low-energy phenomenon. Following the establishment of the UV-finite framework (Ref. 1) and the derivation of effective fermionic matter (Ref. 2), this third study addresses the origin of forces. The research demonstrates that the "gauge field" can be mathematically identified as the Berry connection arising from the projection of the full six-component dynamics onto the physical subspace. Key Findings: Geometric Origin of Force: The decoupling of high-energy Lee--Wick partners induces a geometric Berry connection $\mathcal{A}_\mu$ in the effective action of the physical modes. Gauge Invariance as Basis Redundancy: The study proves that this induced connection transforms exactly as an Abelian gauge potential under local basis changes of the internal Krein space. Emergent Covariant Derivative: The interaction enters the kinetic term naturally via the covariant derivative $D_\mu = \partial_\mu - i\mathcal{A}_\mu$, interpreted here as the requisite geometric holonomy to maintain the parallel transport of the composite scalar wavefunction. These results suggest a unified perspective where both the fermionic nature of matter and the gauge nature of forces are emergent effective properties of a single, UV-finite scalar Lagrangian.
