MATLAB Networks and Functions to Calibrate COSMIC RO TEC to Ground-based GNSS-derived TEC
Abstract
The programs are a set MATLAB Networks and Functions (obtained by neural network proceedures as published in Okoh et al. (2026)) to Calibrate COSMIC (Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate) Radio Occultation (RO) Total Electron Content (TEC) to Ground-based GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System)-derived TEC. The attached zip file contains 2 folders, namely Functions and Networks, containing the MATLAB functions and networks respectively. Either of the functions or the networks are required to make predictions, not both at the same time (they contain similar products). Either of the folders (Functions and Networks) contain sub-folders named ROTEC-A and ROTEC-B for the two set of neural network models developed and described in Okoh et al. (2026) for calibrating COSMIC RO TEC to Ground-based GNSS-derived TEC. Each of ROTEC-A and ROTEC-B contains three model files. The model's overall preciction/output is an average of the predictions/outputs from the three model files. 1. To make a prediction from any of the Network model files (e.g., from net26G1.mat), the MATLAB syntax is: load('net26G1.mat') ; outputs = sim(net, inputs'); where inputs is a variable containing the inputs (for which prediction is required) in the following order (see Okoh et al. 2026 for full description of the inputs): For ROTEC-A: inputs=[doyc doys ltcc ltcs latc lonc hmf2 smear fof2 botlat botlon botalt toplat toplon topalt latg long distx ctec]; For ROTEC-B: inputs2=[doyc doys ltcc ltcs latc lonc hmf2 smear fof2 botlat botlon botalt toplat toplon topalt latg long distx ctec kp dst f10p7]; outputs is the variable containing the model's prediction/output. 2. To make a prediction from any of the Function model files (e.g., from net26G1.m), the MATLAB syntax is: outputs = net26G1(inputs); where inputs and outputs are similarly described as above. The new version is derived after further cleaning of data (discarding profiles where correlation with Chapman profile is less than 0.85).
