Therapeutic potential of Datura stramonium in wound healing and oxidative stress reduction in wistar albino rats
Abstract
In this study, we evaluated the wound healing and in-vivo antioxidant potential of Datura stramonium (Linn) leaf extracts in rats. The leaves were extracted and tested for their wound healing activity using experimentally induced wounds following approved protocols. Serum samples were analyzed to assess in-vivo antioxidant activity. All formulations of the plant leaf extracts significantly reduced the period of epithelialization compared to the control group. Additionally, the treatments markedly decreased wound contraction relative to control. The extracts demonstrated notable antioxidant activity, evidenced by reduced levels of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and increased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione (GSH) in response to oxidative stress. These results indicate that the ethyl acetate extract of D. stramonium leaves may offer therapeutic benefits in promoting wound healing, showing superior efficacy compared to other plant extracts.
