XPENSA: A Web-Based Personal Expense Management and Financial Planning System
Abstract
ABSTRACT Personal finance management is important for maintaining financial discipline; however, many individuals still depend on manual and unstructured methods such as handwritten records or spreadsheets. This paper presents XPENSA, a secure and scalable web-based personal expense management system. The application provides features such as income and expense tracking, recurring payment management (subscriptions and EMIs), loan evaluation, savings goal planning, and financial visualization. XPENSA is developed using React (Vite) for the frontend, Spring Boot for the backend, and MySQL for data storage, following a three-tier architecture to ensure modularity and maintainability. Security is enforced using JWT-based authentication. Manual testing across multiple user accounts confirms accurate transaction recording, effective management of recurring expenses, and clear visualization of spending patterns, demonstrating the practical applicability of the system. Key words: Personal Finance Management, Full-Stack Web Application, Expense Tracking, Savings Goals, JWT Authentication, Spring Boot
