"Detection of Acoustic Emission Events in Metal Water Lock Gates in Rivers" project CRISTAL
Abstract
In October of 2024 in Crete - Greece, CERTH presented in the ACOUSTICS2024 conference HELINA (https://conferences.helina.gr/2024/en/), a paper with the title: "Detection of Acoustic Emission Events in Metal Water Lock Gates in Rivers" by T. Tsenis, N. Aggelopoulos and V. Kappatos (page 588) This paper was developed under the EU CRISTAL (https://www.cristal-project.eu/) European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 101069838, as one of the tasks CERTH undertook was the predictive maintenance of metallic waterlock gates in river-inland transportation. The uploaded pdf is the proceedings book pdf, the specific paper is at page 588. The paper demonstrates the development of an embedded autoencoder capable of detecting early Acoustic Emission sourced from microcracks developed in the metallic body of waterlock gates. It demonstrates the capability through the Acoustic Emission technique to detect a predictive maintenance signature over the buildup of metallic micro-cracks; alerting for possible maintenance, avoiding the downtime of the waterlock gates, thereby securing the smooth operation of inland transportation.
