Topographic Reconstruction and Geodetic Analysis of the Beale Ciphers: A 19th-Century Military Survey Model
Abstract
This report presents a paradigm shift in the analysis of the Beale Ciphers. Moving away from traditional linguistic-based book cipher theories, the author applies 19th-century military surveying techniques, specifically the 'Forced Direction' (traverse) method. By establishing Buford’s Tavern (Montvale, VA) as the geodetic datum and treating the numerical sequences as polar vectors (azimuth and distance) combined with elevation constraints, the study localizes aspecific structural anomaly on Taylor’s Mountain. The methodology is verified through high-resolution LiDAR terrain analysis and Digital Elevation Models (DEM), identifying a potential man-made storage site at coordinates 37.3901, -79.6670. The report includes technical protocols for archaeological extraction and internal cave navigation based on Cipher 3.
