Abstract

Description (English) MASA (Meaning-Agnostic Structural Analysis) is a cryptanalytic methodology that deliberately excludes semantic interpretation, translation, and linguistic inference, and instead analyzes artifacts solely through their structural, positional, and operational properties. This report formally defines MASA as a form of cryptanalysis, grounding its methodological stance in the pre-interpretive approach articulated by Leon Battista Alberti, whose work established a clear separation between structural analysis and interpretation in early cryptographic thought. Within this framework, interpretation is not treated as a prerequisite for analysis, but as a downstream and optional process, strictly separated from structural observation. The document also presents the MASA Universal Prompt, a model-agnostic execution protocol designed to ensure that network-connected Large Language Models (LLMs) can reliably apply MASA without semantic leakage. The prompt explicitly prohibits meaning inference, language identification, speculation, and symbolic interpretation, and constrains model output to structural description and classification only. A prior specification focusing exclusively on the execution protocol of the MASA Universal Prompt has been published separately on Zenodo (Hazama, prior publication). The present report builds upon that specification and extends it by explicitly positioning MASA within the historical continuum of cryptanalysis, and by asserting MASA as a legitimate decoding methodology rather than an interpretive or heuristic analysis. MASA is applicable to undeciphered manuscripts, symbolic systems, inscriptions, diagrams, layouts, and other human-made artifacts in which meaning is unknown, contested, or intentionally concealed. The methodology is designed to be reproducible, model-independent, and resistant to interpretive bias. Description(日本語) MASA(Meaning-Agnostic Structural Analysis)は、意味解釈・翻訳・言語的推定を意図的に排除し、対象をその構造的・位置的・操作的特性のみに基づいて分析する暗号解読手法である。
