THE PHYSICS OF MEANING: A Dissertation on Progress Switch Driven Dialogue (PSDD) and Entropic Narrative Architecture
Abstract
Technical Disclosure: Progress Switch Driven Dialogue (PSDD) This document presents the foundational architecture for Progress Switch Driven Dialogue (PSDD), a novel narrative state machine designed to simulate thermodynamic entropy in non-linear storytelling. Unlike traditional boolean-state dialogue trees, PSDD utilizes a continuous Polar Coordinate Topology (The Entropic Compass) to calculate narrative context as a vector field. Key Mechanisms Disclosed (Prior Art): The Entropic Compass: A method for determining narrative direction via the vector summation of three distinct forces: Global Leviathan Vectors (Macro-State), Local Environmental Vectors (Micro-State), and Avatar Intent Vectors (R=Vg+Vl+Va). The Lazy Update Protocol (Delta Cascade): A computational efficiency protocol for calculating state evolution in un-rendered simulation zones. This mechanism computes the angular delta between a stored timestamp vector and the current global vector upon player re-entry, applying a "Resistance Coefficient" to simulate historical drift without continuous processing. The Narrative Capacitor (Hysteresis): The application of control theory to character psychology. This mechanism accumulates "Stress Potential" in a "Progress Switch" variable, triggering state transitions only when a defined "Synapse Threshold" is breached, thereby preventing rapid oscillation between narrative states. Hypothetical Nonfiction (HNF) Warrant: A structural framework for constraining generative narrative branches based on thermodynamic feasibility (Syntropy vs. Distropy) rather than purely creative or random generation. This publication constitutes a formal disclosure of Prior Art to prevent proprietary enclosure of these methods.
