Abstract

This preprint describes Forest Wise, an open-source end-to-end AI systemfor detecting illegal logging using low-power edge nodes, LoRa communication,and cloud-based computer vision models. The system converts raw audio into32×32 mel-spectrogram images (~2 KB) for efficient transmission andclassification using Azure Custom Vision and GPT-4o Vision. The full implementation code is archived separately on Zenodo and GitHub.
