The Sinoatrial Node as a Universal Point of Human Death Realization
Abstract
This article presents a conceptual and pathophysiological model of human death, highlighting the sinoatrial (SA) node as the universal point of death realization. Regardless of the primary pathology—acute or chronic, cardiac or extracardiac—the terminal mechanism converges on loss of effective coronary perfusion and irreversible suppression of cardiac automatism. The cascade may include electromechanical dissociation, progressing to asystole or ventricular fibrillation. Functional cardiac death can occur before morphological myocardial damage in acute catastrophic events or against the background of established myocardial pathology. Understanding this universal mechanism has critical implications for resuscitation, clinical practice, and the philosophy of death. Keywords: sinoatrial node, cardiac automatism, electromechanical dissociation, asystole, fibrillation, clinical death, coronary perfusion, terminal states.
